art and activism go hand in hand

(In response to arguments that shows like "Bombay Nights" perpetuate "exotic" stereotypes that are offensive in an Us vs. Them kind of way)

"But I love musicals for the spectacle aspect, so it shouldn't be an issue because it's important for people to be informed consumers."
And that is the part people don't understand about art and entertainment. They are some of the most important, most widely referenced wells of information in existence. And it is disgusting that we, on the whole, find them to be not worth the effort. Unimportant. Trash.

It's how ignorant people reach conclusions like the above, in which mainstream white spectacle and bastardizations of Indian culture are synonymous.

Because, contrary to apparent popular belief, there is a line between spectacle and racism. And it pisses me off that so few people see that, and so few people realize there is still a problem.

That, in itself, is the problem.
